Holding UAL accountable & making sure students are HEARD! #Sof4LCC

Hey, I'm Sof & I am re-running for LCC College Officer!

What have I done so far, and what will I continue to work on?

A lot of my work this year has centred around community building, such as including postgraduates in the Big Welcome with the Wine & Cheese Mixers, working on Disability History Month, LGBTQ+ History Month and the upcoming first ever South Asian Heritage Month at UAL to increase representation, inclusion and visibility with events, panels and exhibitions, and pushing for support for Iranian students last term. Recently, I've just started working on a Student Caregivers Network for student parents, guardians and carers, which I hope to link to student support for the Cost of Living.

At LCC, I’ve helped to get the Darkroom Bar reopened so that students have their own space back. I set up and organised the first-ever Town Hall Forum so that students were able to meet their new Head of College and speak to him directly in order for students to have more transparency around their college leadership.

I’m building relationships with resource teams at the college, such as Technical Resources, Course Support, the Equality, Diversity & Inclusion team, and the library, to help improve student experience and access for workshops, equipment, and more. I’d like to continue ensuring that students are heard at every level in the college, and to keep challenging LCC when they fall short for their students.

A big part of my focus has been on improving student experience. I sit on various groups for UAL, including the Education Enhancement Committee and Sexual Violence & Harassment Working Group, and the Arts SU Safe Space Crits & Tutorial and Bullying & Harassment working groups, where I champion for student safety and wellbeing. Additionally, I'll be on the working group for UAL’s new Education Strategy, which I hope to continue if elected.

If you vote for me, I will continue to hold UAL accountable as an institution, and fight to ensure that students' needs are being met. I will keep listening to you, and make sure that you are heard.
