United voices to build a more inclusive screen school

As a second year international student in UAL, I have had some time to observe and reflect upon the energy present on multiple campuses and events. Alongside being a participant at said events, I am also a motivated member within the UAL clubs and societies.

Managing the social media accounts for the ‘virtual reality’ club has helped to consider ways of promoting engaging and accessible gatherings. Additionally, within my work as a course representative, I have made it clear from the first day of second year that I wanted to aid in shaping the trajectory of my course (BA virtual reality). Although my class is made up of eleven students, I still notice some differences which keep my peers from fully immersing themselves in their studies. From language barriers, mental illness complications, to working multiple jobs at once; I try to communicate and propose compromises which can allow for my fellow students to gain as much as they can from these years in UAL. Relaying experience and information from one to another is a quality I much respect; thus making me an advocate for accessible knowledge.

Noticing that other courses within the screen school at LCC have similar concerns to mine, It would be a goal of mine to advocate for the unease and suggestions of a larger community of students. Through working together, we can take action and ensure that necessary steps are taken to spark change. Reflecting upon the skills I gained from being a course representative, peer mentor, and social manager for the VR club; I am able to continue growing as a listener and a supporter of inclusivity. I hope you consider me as a strong applicant for the position of LCC screen school representative.

Thanks (:
