Nick Nack Paddywhack Give a Girl a Vote
There is a spectre haunting LCC’s media school. The spectre of Kit Elash. Actually, I’m not so much a metaphor for communism as I am Casper the friendly ghost. I am running for the media school rep because I want to help make a difference.
Here are the three things I think are most important:
Issue #1 The Cost of Living Crisis
A recent study by our SU found that less than half of students believe they have the financial resources to complete their course, with 80% saying that the cost-of-living crisis had affected their wellbeing.
I will fight to make financial support from LCC more accessible, whilst reducing bureaucracy to access support.
Issue #2: Lack of student control/input in academia
I’ve resolved to bring students into the decision-making processes that affect our lives, following a ‘nothing about me without me’ mentality.
I will bring in round-table events with students and student reps so that we can get a better understanding of what issues are currently effecting students. I know that the problems I face aren’t universal and I want to give everyone the chance to feel heard so that everyone can have the best academic experience.
Issue #3: Students struggling to access wellbeing support.
There are a lot of reasons why students may struggle to access wellbeing support, exacerbated by the fact that it can be difficult to reach out when a person has a disability, or mental health issues. I will help support proactive outreach to help those who otherwise might be left behind.
I am proactive and driven and will fight to make life better for all students. I am the Disability Student Intern at Arts SU and I want to use the research created by the SU to further help students and make sure that students can have the best possible time whilst at university. During my undergrad degree I was the student rep for my course; I regularly spoke with students and collected complaints or issues that people faced whilst working with the Uni to help improve their experience.
