Vote Armani as your FIRST CHOICE for Student Communities Officer!
Hi, my name is Armani Sutherland (she/her) and I’m your current Activities Officer at Arts Students’ Union. I’m re-running to become your Student Communities Officer!
I graduated from BA Media Communications in 2021, after a successful run as President of the African Caribbean Society and Ballet for Arts Dance Club, where I organised over thirteen student events and co-founded the widely supported End Racism at UAL campaign and petition. I was elected as your Activities Officer because I believe in equal access to opportunity for all students. If re-elected as your Student Communities Officer I will continue to work towards championing student voices to create real change within UAL.
What I’ve done so far:
- Welcomed 10+ new societies, offering them tailored support and advice.
- Prioritised student and staff mental health by running cross campus wellness pop-ups offering complimentary services and resources.
- Organised two giveaways where free art supplies were distributed to students.
- Utilised multiple platforms to share and promoted student-ran businesses.
- Worked closely with student-led Undertones Agency in successfully bringing diversity to the fashion productions at UAL.
- Successfully lobbied UAL to add racial trauma to the list of Extenuating Circumstances.
If you re-elect me I WILL:
- Work with Arts SU to make our sports clubs and societies more accessible and affordable, especially for marginalised students.
- Continue to organise more in-person events that encourage community building and cross campus collaboration, as well as offering industry advice and wellbeing.
- Improve access to mental health councillors and workshops, especially for Home and International students studying remotely.
- Lobby for financial support for degree shows along with access to workshops spaces for Postgraduates.
- Continue to campaign for UAL to fulfil their Anti-Racism Strategy commitments.
