We gotta make, gonna make, gonna make it through this

Hi, Oriana here!

I’m running for Union Affairs Officer (UAO), the public voice of the SU, working with the University on student issues. I’m a British-Venezuelan Londoner, FA Painting Student. With a fascination for Philosophy, Music (listening/DJing) and the Environment, member of the Latinx Collective, LGBTQ+ Society, Psychedelic Society and Showcase Selects. So, we’ll always have something to talk about :) .

I wanted to run for this role as I found myself involved in trying to better my course and connect with students across all 6 colleges. As UAO I could do this full-time!

As your UAO, I will work alongside the SU and UAL to tackle these issues:

1. Regain face-2-face activities:
Whilst covid hasn’t disappeared entirely, many of our in-person activities have. I want to bring back in-person workshops, lectures, and events. This will help keep us engaged with our course, provide opportunities for students to meet and collaborate. We’ve spent too long sat in front of a screen and it’s time to bring back real human connection.

2. Carbon Neutral College:

UAL is one of the leading institutions in sustainability, with a pledge to reach net zero in our carbon footprint by 2040! I want to ensure this is on track, reviewing the steps being taken towards reducing our emissions and communicating them clearly.

3. Increase cross-course AND cross-college collaboration:
Together we’re a collective of over 19,000 creatives, businesspeople and innovators, together we are an unstoppable force. How? Through social and academic events that will help you connect with others around UAL to create bigger, better projects together.

Other ideas including improved studio space organisation and Mental Health support are what I aim to bring to the table if you vote me in for Union Affairs officer. I am here to fight your battles.
