Overview

Arts Students’ Union and the UAL African and Caribbean Society are pleased to present The Art of Joy: Through Fashion.

The Art of Joy: Through Fashion is an installation that celebrates and highlights the talent, contributions, and multi-faceted nature of the Black designers at UAL, on view at Central Saint Martins Window Galleries.

As we gather together to celebrate Black History Month, our installation will seek to reflect the ways in which joy is expressed through the practice of design and aims to give space for designers to move away from depictions of the Black experience centred purely on trauma. This installation features fourteen unique designs - all distinct in their concepts, approach, and styles yet being underpinned by the notion that moments of Joy and celebration hold a strength that has and continues to lead us towards change.

This exhibition is curated by Armani Sutherland, Ti’onne Debnam and Alyshia Jack. Arts Students’ Union and the UAL African Caribbean Society would like to thank University of the Arts London for making this exhibition possible.

Private View: Thursday 29th September, CSM Window Galleries, 5:30pm - 8:00pm

The installation will then be on display in the galleries until 4th November, you can view the galleries 24 hours daily

The Window Galleries are located in the thoroughfare of the Granary Square building, Central Saint Martins.
