Queer Identity and Healing with Foundation for Change

Date Wednesday 10 February 2021

Time 5pm - 6pm

Location Zoom

Overview

This year’s theme for LGBTQ+ History Month is ‘Body, Mind, Spirit’, and joining Arts SU will be LGBT+ led independent charity Foundation For Change to give a talk on the themes of wellbeing, queer identity and healing.

This talk will take us on a journey from a historical overview of otherness to an exploration of trauma, wellbeing and how this relates to being LGBTQ+. Throughout the session, themes explored will include how difficulties can manifest in everyday student life, gaining personal insight and a stronger sense of identity, and understanding better wider systemic forces which affect this. It will end by exploring healing as an ongoing process, providing tools for moving forward. With insight spanning across mental health, recovery, psychology, feminism, philosophy and social history, Foundation For Change will bring us an in-depth and unique look into what wellbeing and healing can mean as a queer person.

The talk will last approximately 40 minutes, and will be followed by a Q&A. Attendees will receive slides and handouts following the talk.
