“Philosophy is at once the most sublime and the most trivial of human pursuits” (William James).
Philosophy Society aims to give you a platform for creative, thoughtful exchange with other thinkers and their thoughts - be that bfeeling stimulated by an academic speaker, an exhibition we've all seen, or a burning question that you want to mull over. Classic, contemporary, and personal theories are all on the agenda.
We're here for everyone, whether you’ve studied philosophy before or have never heard of it. We want to get to know the curious minds among you!
We have historically had end-of-year exhibitions held in spaces like HIVE Dalston and ArtsLav in Kennington.
We're all about: guest speakers, group socials, intersociety events, gallery visits, film screenings, book discussions, and more. Also, we send out a newsletter every week with interesting finds, stuff to read, and recommendations for philosophical talks and events in London.
This year, we want to continue inviting artists and researchers to give presentations of their work – one thing we have planned already in November is Matthew de Kersaint Giraudeau and Sam Mercer's presentation of their work on ‘Interruptions’. We hope you will join us for casual discussions as we meet up with food and drink at the beginning and end of each term.
Most events will take place at LCC (Elephant and Castle) - but we will be hosting events at other places across London and across campuses, too.
There will definitely be an open call for submissions for the end-of-year exhibition again, which is set to happen in June.
