We are looking for Black, Asian or Minority Ethnicity Students who have worked in leadership positions at Arts SU (Sports and Socs Committee, Course Rep, Part-Time Officer, Sabb) or have been involved with any UAL initiatives.
We would like to invite students who self-identify as the above to be part of a panel where they discuss their experiences working in a leadership role and discuss any barriers they may have faced to applying or partaking in the role.
We are hoping to open a dialogue around the barriers - financial, social, racial - that Students of Colour face in getting involved with University or Students' Union initiatives, with the hope that this enables us to:
1) make the necessary changes to be as accessible as possible
2) that it encourages other students to use their voice and get involved in similar initiatives.
The event will take place on Thursday 19th November 5-6.30, and the panel portion will last for 1 hour. The panel will be chaired by Yasmeen Thantrey, our Campaigns Officer, and the event will be opened by Yemi Gbajobi, our CEO.
We want the panel to feel like an organic conversation and give our students the chance to share their experiences in a safe space, so there is nothing to prepare or be worried about!
We would like any students who want to be involved to email firstname.lastname@example.org by 9am on Monday 9th November.
