Share your voice this LGBTQIA+ History Month.

What are we looking for?

This competition is aimed at showcasing the diverse range of creativity at UAL. We want to see what our LGBTQIA+ community at UAL have to offer. We want to see your creativity and passion.

We are looking for a design that encapsulates your thoughts on LGBTQIA+ History Month. The selected design will compliment this year's LGBTQIA+ exhibition by Arts SU. This year the Arts SU's dedicated exhibition is entitled 'Visible'. Georgia Spencer, your Arts SU Welfare Sabbatical Officer, offers her thoughts on why this is such an important celebration and time of recognition.

"Art allows for self-expression. We can escape through art, be immersed in it. Our practices communicate our voices in unique ways. Our art can act as a safe space for us, it may protect us, challenge us, help us answer difficult questions in our lives. As LGBTQIA+ artists our art deserves to be seen, heard, digested and celebrated."

The selected artwork for this competition will be chosen based on the quality, creativity and concept of the design. It may be something personal or something you have been working on for your degree.

We ask that you only submit work that is completed, rather than proposals of work to be created. It can be in any media - just make sure to think about how it might be translated onto a printed piece ot sell within a shop.

What can you win?

  • Get your design printed on a product of your choice. This will be in the form of a print, notebook or a patch, but product options will be discussed in your 1-1. Your work will also be sold in not just a shop’s Central London location!

  • Receive a developmental 1-1 with not just a shop, where you can discuss the production of your design and receive an insight into the production process as a designer/maker.

  • Win £150 voucher to a shop of your choice.

With permission, submissions will be featured on the Arts SU social platforms and the selected entry will be featured on not just a shop’s socials.

How do you apply?

  • Submit 1 image of your work (Please upload just one main image. This will be the work that the selection panel will base their decision on. Remember, make sure to submit an image you think will translate well into being printed.)

  • Fill in a short form with name, student number, an image, description of your work, how it was made, why you are so proud of this piece of work, and how you think it encapsulates LGBTQIA+ History Month.
