Design the image for the programme flyer

Be our featured artist for Black History Month 2019.

Arts SU is inviting current UAL students to have their work selected for use in our Black History Month 2019 promotional material, including on our flyer and poster.

The winning image will be distributed both internally at all colleges and to our external partners.

About you

  • Only students from African-Caribbean background can apply.
  • You must be a current UAL student.
  • You may submit multiple entries but only one image will be selected.
  • Images entered must be your original artwork, for which you will retain copyright.
  • You will be credited for your artwork.

What we’re looking for

  • A high quality image.
  • The image should be suitable for both an A5 (148 x210 mm) and A6 (105x148mm) flyer.
  • The image should be suitable for A3 and A0 posters.
  • The image should work for different digital productions (for example, Facebook banner, Instagram post).
  • The image should be in line with your signature style.
  • The image must appeal to a wide audience of students from all colleges and disciplines.

The pay

  • The winning applicant will receive £80 for the use of their image.

Curate the Black History Month Exhibition

Your chance to curate an exhibition celebrating Black History Month 2019

Length of work: 15-20 days from 20th August – 31st October 2019

Exhibition: 16th – 31st October 2019

Arts SU is looking for a student curator to curate the Black History Month 2019 exhibition at Copeland Gallery, Peckham.

Copeland Gallery is a partitioned white-walled space with multiple areas – the ideal location to show the multitude of artworks created by current African-Caribbean artists at UAL. This is an amazing opportunity to put on a show in a high-profile venue.

About you

  • Only students from African-Caribbean backgrounds can apply for this role.
  • You must be a current UAL student.
  • The student curator must be available in September and October to meet and discuss the artworks and curate the space.

What we’re looking for

  • The curator is expected to work alongside the Arts SU creative team and to take a ‘hands on’ approach.
  • The curator is expected to help plan for logistical and equipment requirements.
  • The curator is expected to be work together with technicians and installers.
  • The curator is expected to curate a variety of different artworks, in a range of media.

Key dates

  • Exhibition installation: 16th October – 17th October 2019*
  • Private view: 18th October 2019* Exhibition opens to the public: 19th October 2019 – 29th October 2019*

The pay

  • The applicant will be paid according to the Living London Wage (£10.55 per hour).

Black History Month Exhibition art work call out

During Black History Month 2019, Arts SU will be celebrating artwork by current UAL students from an African-Caribbean background with an exhibition at Copeland Gallery, Peckham.

There is no theme and students studying in any discipline, at any level, can enter.

Showcasing the range of creativity at UAL, this exhibition offers students a chance to collaborate, develop and show their work to a wider audience. If you identify as a student of African- Caribbean descent and want to take part in this exhibition, please fill out the form below.

About you

  • Only students from an African-Caribbean background can apply.
  • You must be a current UAL student to enter.

About your artwork

  • Artworks must be original and created by the artists.
  • Your work should be prepared for hanging by 10am on 17 October 2019.
  • Any medium will be accepted, unless the creative team states otherwise.
