We Deserve Better! Vote to make Changes!

As a woman studying at UAL I've seen the disparities between students, whether this is across campuses or colleges work can be done.

There needs to be: Better opportunities, Better understanding, Better mental health practises, Better diversity training, and I pledge to fight for this!

We need both financial and emotional support, whilst the practices are in place it is difficult to cultivate that support.

UAL has repeatedly let women down. Their process for sexual assault is underwhelming in 2017/18 zero assaults resulted in expulsions. Let alone the lack of sanitary products in the toilets. We deserve to be safe at university and have individuals held accountable for their actions. We should be able to rely on the university to provide us with period products. There needs to be a change.
Recently UAL has announced they will start supplying period products but with no details on for how long and how much. It further excludes women who do not live in residential halls, UAL has to support all individuals with periods and I pledge to fight for this and the continuation of it past this period of the cost of living crisis.

Mental health issues have increased 450% over the last decade among university students but there is still a struggle to get that help or a stigma. As a student who has been through this process with UAL, I know where there are issues and how we can improve them. There needs to be a safe space to find help and more regular check-ins as finding help can feel impossible. We need more routine practices put into course structures to effectively support students, particularly women who on average suffer from mental health problems more than men and this needs to be accounted for.

These changes though must be inclusive we must make sure that these changes we make do not only benefit white, cis, straight wealthy women we must actively make changes and include an antidiscriminatory lens on how we make change. UAL needs someone who represents not only the wealthy but who puts all students first.

Let me be that person.
