Hey! I am Ella Fitzgerald, currently in my final year of Fine Art + Creative Computing at Camberwell.
I aim to facilitate accessible, safe and welcoming spaces for intersectional and underrepresented students from working-class and queer communities. I am suitable for this role due to my experience with the Working-Class Artists Network (WANK Collective) in which I contributed to facilitating exhibitions and opportunities for working-class creatives. I am passionate about the empowerment of the working-class and hope I can enact real change for students from these intersectional communities such as job opportunities and career-focused training in this welfare role with the student union!
My aim is to create opportunity and palpable change for the underrepresented and marginalised students of UAL, including ;
- Inclusivity and Anti-Racism Training of ALL UAL STAFF! Tutors and admin has shown an unacceptable lack of understanding resulting in isolated students - especially relevant when UAL Awarding Body have invited and gave a platform to TERFS such as Rachel Ara (obviously a result due to a lack of diversity and awareness in the team)
- Lobbying UAL to Increase the available funding for students in hardship or those from working-class backgrounds in order for equal access to materials and their ability to produce work, as well as increased funding for mental health services
- Improve the representation of POC, LGBTQIA+ and Working-Class lecturers and staff as well as increasing the diversity in the content of tutor's lectures
- Campaign with other student unions for COVID graduates, demanding access when safe for; workshop facilities, a degree show and graduation - Many students, including myself, applied to our courses with a promise of a physical degree show, UAL’s compensation offer of a website is a shamble, we all deserve better
