Inequality in the Arts: Attack

Hi, I’m Megan, a current 3rd year on BA Jewellery Design at CSM.

As your welfare officer, I will be passionate about improving UAL’s mental health awareness, support and funding and make sure there are equal opportunities for all students. I have a history of activism outside of the university and will bring my skills to make a happier and healthier UAL for all.

Mental health funding and support:

  • Put pressure on the university to increase their Disability and Mental health budget so there is quicker access to help, especially considering the stresses of the pandemic.
  • I will campaign to add new therapy services to UAL’s Mental Health Service as CBT and counselling are great and very useful, but unfortunately don’t work for everyone- including myself. I will talk to the mental health advisors and see which therapies are most in need and bring at least two new therapies to the service.

Education on mental health and disability:

  • Provide education on different mental health and disability to all UAL’s tutors so they can communicate better with those who are vulnerable.
  • It is important that as our primary interaction they know how to help us when we are distressed and point us in the right direction for help in a supportive and kind manner, without upsetting or triggering students.

Discrimination and Equality:

  • Continue support of LGBGTQIA+ issues, Feminist, BLM and other issues concerning discrimination
  • Continue discourse with students of these minority groups and hear how they think their voices and opinions can be heard- how can we do better as a university?

Fee Refund for all students:

  • Let’s collab with other universities SU’s, that offer practical courses, to put pressure on the government to help support the university to do this!
