Injustice in the Arts: Attack!

Hi Folks,

I’m Dylan Wilson (he/him), your current elected Education Officer now re-running for 21/22!

I’m also your link officer and graduate of LCC, I studied BA Animation and co-ran Drama Society in my final year.

This year I have fought for your rights, learning much in my time. I intend to take these experiences into my second year to demand justice and change for ALL students at UAL!

This year I:

  • Got Adobe software on the equipment hardship fund

  • Lobbied the university to introduce the Learning Zone at LCC

  • Allied with many student activist groups, other student unions, staff unions and national campaigns ( i.e. UAL Rent Strike, Action UAL) to lobby UAL and the government

  • Worked with officer team for an investigation into UAL’s VC recruitment process

  • Lobbied the university for more bursaries for EU and international students

  • Rebranded the Teaching Awards to Arts’ Awards, celebrating staff excellence at UAL

If re-elected I will:

  • Extend demands of justice for all COVID graduates, pushing UAL to commit to the completion of our courses and robust careers & employability support for graduates/alumni

  • See an improved reporting system for discrimination against POC and LGBTQIA+ at UAL and full accountability from the institution.

  • Continue to decolonise our curriculum, widening access and closing awarding gaps through diversity and inclusive practice.

  • Enable course and society collaborations, building a community of multidisciplinary artists.

  • Ensure new Elephant and Castle and Stratford developments are SUSTAINABLE and beneficial for students AND local communities!

This year has been devastating, exhausting and life changing in so many ways. As a devoted ally, I believe that action is critical if we are to dismantle systemic oppression and come out of this pandemic as valued creatives and I have the record to prove it! Vote Dylan!
