Hi, my name is Armani Sutherland (she/her) and I’m a third year BA Media Communications student at London College of Communication.
Alongside my studies, I have spent the last two years taking an active role in improving the student experience at UAL by producing events and campaigning for student rights as well as being a member of various Societies and Sports Clubs. If elected as your Activities Officer I will continue to work towards championing student voices to create real change within UAL.
I have the following experience that will enable me to be a great Activities Officer:
- President of the African Caribbean Society and President of Ballet for Arts Dance club last academic year.
- Organised thirteen student events including three exclusive screenings of the film Queen & Slim, a Fashion Talk featuring an editor at British Vogue, a Live Art Exhibition and cultural Food Festival.
- Co-Founded the End Racism at UAL campaign, achieving over 10K signatures on the petition and worked as an advisor on the UAL Anti-Racism Strategy.
- Collaborated with Arts SU to create a Students’ Directory, specifically to support underrepresented students.
If elected as Activities Officer I aim to:
- Work with Arts SU to increase visibility for new and existing Societies and Sports Clubs as well as improve inclusivity and accessibility, especially for marginalised students.
- Push UAL for funding on student-led initiatives and campaigns (online or in person) along with personally providing support and advice.
- Lobby for a degree show or innovative alternatives along with access to resources and workshops spaces for Postgraduates.
- Improve access to mental health councillors and workshops, especially for Home and International students studying remotely during Covid-19.
- Continue to campaign for UAL to fulfil their Anti-Racism Strategy commitments, focusing foremost on anti-racism training, reporting efficiency and decolonising the curriculum.
- Plus much more!
