SUPPORT STUDENTS TO BE EMPOWERED AND REACH THEIR ACADEMIC POTENTIAL

Ana Blumenkron (she/her)

I am running to be your Education Officer. I am an international graduate from Mexico who moved to London to study MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at LCC. While studying, I was a course rep and also part of the Changemakers, a group of students committed to decolonize the curriculum and tackle the systemic racism within the University.

When you elect me I WILL

  • Make sure that UAL adopts decolonisation, antiracism and diversity as the core of it’s curriculum so that we can shape the creative industries of tomorrow and a better future for all.
  • Increase visibility for marginalised communities within the university, committing to an anti-racism strategy continuing to decolonise the arts.
  • Working closer with Careers and Employability to improve employability skills so students and graduates can really make a living doing what they love.
  • Improving the quality of teaching & learning. By improving blackboard, e-learning, course design, assessment and feedback.
  • Lobbying for a more accessible hardship fund, where students who are still struggling can obtain it more than once.
  • Working towards having better mental health spaces and students' wellbeing, with a prompt response from counsellors and more therapy sessions available for students.

I am a committed and passionate advocate for equal education for all. When elected, I aim to make sure that all UAL students, whether you are International, EU, or Home, from different backgrounds and identities are represented, respected, and valued. Under the current circumstances of Covid more than ever students feel that they have been left out. I have personally experienced the limited access which students were given to the facilities and how it affected their academic life. This has to change, it’s time that UAL students have a stronger voice, because the decisions the university is taking, cannot be done without us.
