Students know what they need!

My name is Justin South, my pronouns are he/him, and I’m a first year Fashion Pattern Cutting student. I’m also the LGBTQ+ part-time Students’ Officer. I’m standing for Campaigns Officer because I am passionate about getting the voices of students heard.

I love helping others realise the changes they need to live fulfilling lives, and students know best what students need. As your Campaigns Officer, I will take the message of intersectionality that is at the heart of the queer community and apply it to all UAL students. I am very excited to continue the relationships I have formed and help work with and for all UAL students!

I will:

  • Campaign for recognition of the damage of COVID to students and a satisfactory response from the UAL administration
  • Campaign to keep hate speech out of free speech in UAL
  • Represent and provide help to marginalised intersecting communities at UAL, including international students, BAME students, LGBTQ+ students, and disabled students
  • Campaign for access and accommodation for all students
  • Help students to lead campaigns for change inside UAL that will benefit all

As LGBTQ+ part-time Students’ Officer I have already run one charity led wellbeing workshop, a performance workshop, and the first ever LGBTQ+ Artist Showcase Competition with Not Just A Shop. I have helped the Arts SU campaign against UAL inviting speakers who represent a clear danger to the wellbeing of students.

Voting for me will mean I can put all my time and energy into supporting you as your full time Campaigns Officer! I am a recovering addict and I have Borderline Personality Disorder so I know the importance of taking care of health and wellbeing and will campaign to create programmes that help students learn about themselves and their fellows, and graduate happier people!
