Kairo Urovi

Hi, my name is Kairo (they/he). Being a trans masculine person at UAL, I know and understand the benefits but also challenges that come with studying at this university. Throughout my education I have always been proactive and involved within my communities. From facilitating art workshops at The Photographer’s Gallery to being a student ambassador at my previous college, I have extensive knowledge and experience in working closely with organisations to create thriving and safe spaces for all.

As your Trans Officer, I would be thrilled to spark honest and open conversations amongst each-other and our comrades grounded on collective solidarity and responsibility. Especially in today’s political climate these conversations and changes need to happen - I want the trans and non-binary community at UAL to not only be safe but to be thriving and this is my top priority.

My aims include:

  • More conversations with staff regarding trans and non-binary issues e.g. workshops for all university tutors and staff to attend on why pronouns matter and how to use them
  • Workshops focused on community aid, accountability and how to improve our individual and collective safety within the university
  • More events that would include:
  1. Talks from trans and/or non-binary artists and practitioners
  2. Monthly wellbeing check-ins
  3. Netflix party movie nights!
  4. Self-defence classes available to all trans and/or non-binary folks

Last but not least, I would advocate for more gender-neutral toilets across every campus which would massively help all colleges become more accessible for my community.
