A better UAL for the students.

Hi, I am Sophia (AKA Sof!), and I am a student on the MA Photojournalism & Documentary Photography. I am a Course Rep, and was also on the student panel for the hiring of the new Pro Vice-Chancellor for LCC. I did my undergraduate degree at Kingston School of Art, where my other experience in university/Student Union work included being the Chairwoman for Sports, President of the Cheerleading Society, 4 years of being a student staff member at Kingston SU, 4 years of being a BA Course Rep, and chairing the Kingston University's AGM.

Having been at two previous art schools, Brighton MET (for my foundation year) and Kingston, I know for a FACT that UAL can and should do better for its students. If you elect me, I will work hard to ensure that students get the most out of their time at UAL - we are all paying a tremendous amount of money for what we are getting, and I would like to really improve the student experience here. For me, that means lobbying for:

  • Improvement of the university's digital platforms, such as Moodle and ORB (especially the usability for ESL students)
  • Better access and information regarding inductions, workshops, and postgraduate employment opportunities
  • More affordable prices in the art shop
  • Ensuring that any students affected by current affairs, such as the conflict in Ukraine, are given the proper support that they need by the university
  • More support as well for students struggling with mental health, financial issues, keeping up with their studies, being an international student, etc
  • Making sure that UAL is a safe space for POC and LGBTQA+ students
  • Pushing for more sustainable and eco-friendly practices on campus
  • Establishing that student voices and concerns are not only heard but listened to by the university
