Vote to support BAME international students

Position standing for: LCF Officer

Hi, I am Taanya – a final-year BA (Hons) Fashion Journalism student at London College of Fashion, UAL.

If elected as an LCF Officer, my priorities over the next academic year would be to increase the support international students receive from the college.

As an international student, I am aware of the hurdles that one comes across – whether it is about finding support when looking for work experience or finding your feet in a new academic environment as a first-year student.

This agenda also aligns with UAL’s continued commitment towards anti-racist strategies. Majority of the international students come from BAME (Black, Asian and minority ethnic) backgrounds; and they are less likely to achieve a 1st or 2:1 in comparison to white students – a concern which needs to be addressed by acknowledging this gap and providing all support necessary to ultimately eliminate it.

I am confident that my experience as a course rep working actively to liaise between faculty and students for the last three years and my role as President of UAL for All society for the last two years will prove to be useful when pushing for these reforms in the interest of LCF’s students.

If elected, I look forward to working together with UAL's ongoing campaign for International Student Support; and most importantly, with you. Together, we can ensure LCF continues to be the community, we, as present students and future alumni, are proud to be a part of.
