The workshop:
Spend a morning designing your own personal scarf, followed by an afternoon learning how to translate it into a digital pattern for an industrial knitting machine!
As part of the workshop, you're invited to design your own unique fan scarf that represents you, your wishes, and your career goals. This unique scarf, which points towards the future, will then serve as a wearable talisman (*an object believed to bring good luck or protect its owner from harm).
During the workshop, you'll be supported to develop ideas for slogans, typography, colour combinations, and composition. And you will learn some basic design skills, both manual and digital. At the end of the workshop, you'll have created a digital draft of your scarf, ready to be knitted on an industrial knitting machine. As part of this workshop, we'll send your design to be printed. A few weeks after the workshop, you'll receive your scarf - a unique piece, just for you, to keep you warm and cheer you on!

Coming on your own or trying something new?
Don't worry, other people will be attending on their own as well; this event is open to all UAL students and can be a great opportunity to make more connections! If you have the Adobe Suite, you are welcome to bring your own laptop; otherwise, all equipment and software access will be provided, and no prior design experience is needed.

Creative Wellbeing
This year's programme of events has been created in direct response to the recommendations in the Arts SU report on Creative Burnout, 'Inside the Kiln'. Drawing on focus groups with students from across UAL, the report examines how creative burnout affects students’ ability to generate ideas, experiment, take risks, and remain connected to their creative practice. We hope sessions like this provide students with access to new materials, additional forms of creative self-care and resilience.
