Arts Students' Union (Arts SU) are pleased to announce the release of its latest report, Craft Your Future: UAL Students' Views on Skills, Graduate Preparedness, and the Creative Economy

Researched and written by our Senior Policy & Research Officer Calum Sherwood, Craft Your Future encapsulates a range of experiences from over 400 University of the Arts London (UAL) students, on their courses and how prepared and equipped they feel for their future after studying. Equitable and valuable arts education presents its own unique challenges to Universities and students alike, and as a representative body for 22,000 students at UAL, one of our continued priorities is ensuring that our members are ready to follow their dreams after graduation. This brand-new report paints a picture of the reality of arts education in our current social landscape:

  • 42% of students identified the high cost of living in creative hubs like London as their top concern about entering the creative workforce
  • Only 20% feel financially prepared for their early career
  • Just 14% report frequent opportunities to gain real-world experience from their course

Our students' candid responses have shaped a series of recommendations that we hope to implement across UAL, improving member experience and helping them to feel more ready to enter the creative workforce.

Find all of our recommendations and read Craft Your Future.
