Hi everyone, I’m Summer! Your Union Affairs Officer at Arts SU.

Communication & Transparency

This term I continued working on making Arts SU more visible and accessible across all six colleges. A key project was developing a video showcasing Arts SU spaces and exhibition areas, helping students better understand what is available to them and how to get involved. By increasing awareness of these spaces, the aim is to encourage more students to engage with the SU and feel a stronger sense of connection to their campus. I also represented students at the academic board and education committee. Being present in these spaces ensures that student perspectives are included in key institutional discussions and decisions, helping to influence changes that directly impact the student experience.

Improving Representation & Creating an Inclusive Campus Environment

I collaborated with the UAL team to deliver the EDI Fair at LCC, creating an open and informal space for students to engage with conversations around equailty, diversity and inclusion. This helped foster a sense of belonging and gave students the opportunity to connect with both the SU and each other in a more accessible way. Alongside this, I supported the Darkroom Bar campaign, contributing to strengthen its identity as a student-focused and inclusive space. This work helps ensure that students have spaces on campus where they feel comfortable to engage.

Cost of Living

I supported the basic needs project through the free food market at Chelsea, helping to provide students with access to essential food resources in a supportive and stigma free environment. This initiative contributes to easing financial pressure and ensuring students are better able to focus on their studies. I also began exploring the introduction of a community fridge on campus, starting off at LCC. This project aims to provide a more sustainable, ongoing way for students to access essential food while building a stronger sense of community support.

Overall Term 2 Summary

This term focused building on existing work by increasing visibility, strengthening inclusive spaces and continuing to support students through cost of living challenges. From creating opportunities for connection through events and campaigns to representing student voice, my aim has been to ensure students feel seen, supported and able to engage fully in university life. I’m looking forward to continuing this work and developing these projects further in the next term.
