Want to make change? Got an Idea?

We've got the tools to make it happen! The Ideas platform is the new interactive way to submit topics for discussion, propose policy, and suggest campaign ideas to improve student life here at Arts.

Idea submissions will be taken to the Student Forums and the Annual Members Meeting

Passed ideas (Arts SU Policy Book):

Passed ideas, either via the Ideas Platform (Your Ideas) or via one of our All-Student Meetings are referred to as SU Policy. This means that it is an objective we must focus on at the SU as mandated by our members (UAL students!). Ideas that are passed will be official SU policy for 3 years.

You can read the full list of previously passed ideas via our SU Policy Book!

    Review canteen & café prices

What is the current situation? (Background)

Based on our evidence, UAL is overall £2 to 3 more expensive than other universities in London. It is also no secret that many students choose to skip meals as they are unable to afford food and drinks at the canteens and cafés. The food and drink prices have been brought up numerous times in course committees and such, but no executive action has taken place. On some course committees, the issue was brushed off by the higher-ups present, and seem to take little to no care at all about the accumulation of the cost of living crisis and extrotionate canteen food and drink prices on UAL students' ability to provide good coursework.

What will be the impact of your Idea? (Why)

We expect the impact to be a lowering of the overall food and drink prices, ideally by a few pounds, in order for us students to afford a warm meal and a hot drink - especially during the winter. The canteens and cafés should not be run for profit, and we believe that profits are one of the reasons why the prices are so high.

What action could Arts SU take to develop your idea? (How)

The student union should actively campaing in all campuses for a lowering of food prices. This could be: bill posting, protesting, or any other action that signals to UAL that it is ruiningly expensive to eat in the University.
