I’m an introvert and even I’m tired of isolating.
Did you also use to read 3 books in a week and now you can’t even read long social media posts? Same here. I’ll try to keep this short for you.
Hello! I’m Kai (they/them) I’m a third year international student from Turkey, studying in Wimbledon BA Costume for Theatre and Screen. I’ve been a course representative for two years and I think a big part of issues in UAL come from communication clarity problems or not having easy access to information.
What I hope I can do for you if I'm elected as a Welfare Officer:
- Our past officers have already worked on bursaries and scholarships for international students, we need more! I want to open this conversation to promote equal opportunities for everyone. The tuition fee gap is tragic enough.
- Lobbying to make sure gender-neutral toilets in certain campuses don’t double as accessible toilets.
- Improving clear communication and transparency between UAL staff, officers, course reps and students. I want to be an officer you know you could reach out to!
- Lobbying for more mental health support and better access to academic support. (Especially when it comes to dissertations.)
As a Welfare Officer, I would want to ensure that everyone gets a chance to have their voices heard about what is working and what needs change, regardless of locations we are in, ethnic diversities, disabilities, sexuality and gender identities.
We’ve been isolated for quite a while and arts is a massively collaborative field, building up communication is very important! In conclusion, vote for KAI, you won’t regret it ;)
