OVERLAY is an exhibition that fosters in its core dialogues between single and collective standpoints. Acknowledging the value of personal encounters, it highlights the combination of distinct approaches to sculpture presented by a diverse set of individuals proposing collaborations and intersection points between their artistic practices.
Comprised of diverse personal backgrounds, the group brings together the creative initiatives of the MA Fine Art: Sculpture students Bea Underwood, Hanzi Li, Jia Hao, Milena Orlandi, Ramón Ravé, Nata Hamilton, Savannah Snead, Yiheng Chen, Zihan Tang in a celebratory showcase of their bond established during this period at Camberwell College of Arts.
Their differences are expressed in artworks revealing a plurality in materials, techniques and forms of procedure. Each artistic voice is invited to have their say in this gathering. But either through individual works or collaborative projects, the intention of the exhibition is to expand to the public view a sample of the experience that was shared by the artists in their studio practice throughout the year.
By overlapping combinations of skills in many configurations and a variety of thematics that attract or distance each work, OVERLAY exposes its outcomes as a result of relationships made within the shared studio time/space and points out the multiple languages that sculpture can embody.
