Overview
Join us for a private tour of Daughter B.W.A.S.M., an exhibition of new paintings and video works by Tala Madani, presented by Pilar Corrias.
Taking its starting point from Francis Picabia’s Fille née sans mère (1916), the exhibition explores ideas around femininity, machinery, and power, tracing a line from early modernism to our A.I.-saturated present. At its centre is Madani’s provocative, shape shifting figure Shit Mom, who subverts ideals of motherhood and perfection as she encounters robot A.I. daughters, touching, holding and awkwardly mothering them.
The exhibition also features two new video works inspired by Eadweard Muybridge’s early motion studies. In S.M. Ascends (2025), Shit Mom is caught in an endless ascent of staircases that constantly reset. In Shitmom Learning How to Walk (2025), she joins Muybridge’s women, mimicking their gestures and learning from their poses, sometimes faltering and collapsing into a formless heap.
After the tour, we’ll head to a casual social to chat about the exhibition and catch up after the break.
