Hi! My name is Ti'onne Debnam, your current LCF Sabbatical Officer! I am excited to be re-running to continue my work representing you all next academic year.
As a member of the LCF community for five years now, I understand the inner workings of both UAL and the needs of my peers. It's been a privilege to improve the student experience- specifically focused on increasing employability during the cost-of-living crisis, our sense of community during the pandemic and elevating students' voices to become increasingly more central to UAL. We've pushed through a lot, but our next challenge is #YOURMOVE as we migrate to the Stratford campus. I believe that, a move that doesn't prioritise students' needs isn't a move worth having.
In addition to focusing on #YOURMOVE, when re-elected, I will focus on four main aspects- the cost of living crisis, employability, community-building and decolonisation- the four pillars at the heart of our student experience.
While in office, I delivered the following:
-
Successfully lobbied for reinstating an art shop for #YOURMOVE to the Stratford campus.
-
Co-led Black History Month, organising thirteen events and two exhibitions.
-
Lobby for increased funding to celebrate liberation periods and various identities - feeding into UAL's decolonisation and anti-racism promises.
-
Curated an exhibition for UAL fashion designers and filmmakers for the Mayor of London.
-
Recognised the importance of student well-being through running wellness events and express manicure pop-ups.
-
Created a visible community and safe space for our queer students through five LGBTQ+ History month events and feeding into the Trans and Non-Binary Inclusion Guidance.
My 2023/24 priorities include:
-
Continuing to address the cost of the living crisis - guarantor scheme for housing, lobby for affordable canteen prices, and design supplies giveaway.
-
Continuing to lobby for #YOURMOVE during the migration to Stratford.
-
Continuing to lobby for more course-industry interaction, opening doors for future careers.
-
Continuing the work of decolonising fashion education and holding the university accountable to its anti-racism commitments.
-
And of course, make my 2022 priorities bigger and better! Bigger events, better advocacy!
