Recognising and representing the diverse student community at UAL is a fundamental part of our work at Arts SU. Our mission is to understand the inequality and disparities that exist for our students in arts education and wider society so that we can respond. We want our work to provide a voice and platform to marginalised student communities, actively educating and addressing the barriers that exist.

South Asian Heritage Month

For the first time at Arts Students' Union, we have put together a coordinated celebration of South Asian Heritage Month which runs from July 18th - August 17th!
The timing of the month ends with the anniversary of Partition. This refers to when the Indian Independence Act received royal assent from King George VI on 18 July 1947, and the Radcliffe Line, which divides India, West Pakistan, and East Pakistan, was published on 17 August, by Cyril Radcliffe.

South Asia consists of 8 countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. We're looking to share the stories of South Asian students, whether that's in the form of poetry, memories, recipes, short stories, or anything else that comes to mind. Why not get involved today?

We are hosting two exhibitions at CSM from 19th July - 17th August and at LCC from 17th July - 21st August which are both free and open to the public.
