Recognising and representing the diverse student community at UAL is a fundamental part of our work at Arts SU. Our mission is to understand the inequality and disparities that exist for our students in arts education and wider society so that we can respond. We want our work to provide a voice and platform to marginalised student communities, actively educating and addressing the barriers that exist.

Reentering

In 2016, during the last year of my BA degree, I experienced an incredible mental health issue. In a short period of time, I left my religion–the one whose university I was attending–I attempted suicide and was diagnosed with Bipolar II Disorder. Since that time, I have worked tirelessly to understand and manage my disorder. An especially poignant aspect of this journey was dealing with the traumatic experiences I had. In this series, Reentering, I revisited places where those significant events in my life occurred and forced myself to address the past trauma, guilt, and joy associated with them. This body of work employs photography to face my memories in the exact places where they occurred.
